He was always in the lead. When his ideas on the existence of electric fields that were perpendicular to magnetic fields were still being questioned, if not attacked, he added the "double layer", regions of strong electric fields parallel to the local magnetic field in the rarefied plasma of space. His magnetic-field-aligned electric field, in combination with field-aligned currents (originating in what is now called the Alfvén layer), is now accepted as crucially important for the acceleration of the charged particles that cause the polar aurora. He also proposed astrophysical applications for his double layers. He proposed a new mechanism for the interaction of plasma and un-ionized gas in relative motion - the Alfvén critical-velocity ionization mechanism. In an entirely different arena, he was first to offer a plasma-physics theory for the formation of comet tails in the expanding solar plasma (the solar wind).

The atmosphere was so charged, however, that operators made an incredible discovery: They could unplug their batteries and still transmit messages to Portland, Maine, at 30- to 90-second intervals using only the auroral current. Messages still couldn’t be sent as seamlessly as under normal conditions, but it was a useful workaround. By 10 a.m. the magnetic disturbance abated enough that stations reconnected their batteries, but transmissions were still affected for the rest of the morning.

behalve olie barst het van de diamanten.

Russia reveals shiny state secret: It's awash in diamonds

'Trillions of carats' lie below a 35-million-year-old, 62-mile-diameter asteroid crater in eastern Siberia known as Popigai Astroblem. The Russians have known about the site since the 1970s. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Global-N ... n-diamonds

hoe komme die daar nou?

Diamonds are primarily found in deep chimneys called "Kimberlite pipes" that reach down into the Earth for several kilometers. They received that name from the Kimberly region of South Africa, where diamond mining was first instituted on a large scale. Kimberlite can be found in Canada and India, as well. In fact, the Hope Diamond, probably the most famous gemstone ever discovered, was from an Indian Kimberlite pipe. Popigai's vicinity is rich with diamond-bearing Kimberlite.

Along with the diamonds, near-vertical crater walls, the flat floor, the mega-breccias, the giant stones sliced in half as if by a laser and the glassified overburden, there is the problem of age. Despite being dated at over 250-million years, Popigai retains a freshly cut appearance.

Perhaps a better proposal is that a titanic "thunderbolt of the gods" produced both the diamond-bearing Kimberlite and the morphology of large craters.

Outside of the earth, the Sun is the most heavily studied body in the solar system. Yet almost all of the Sun's features present major quandaries for solar physicists. But now, an expert on "Design of Experiment" methodologies, Monty Childs, is heading up a project to demonstrate how an electrified plasma environment can produce the enigmatic features of the Sun in the laboratory. Monty and his research group are confident that the technology is now available to rigorously test the electric Sun hypothesis.

Saturn Theory

* The Saturn Theory seems to have a lot more going for it, since it conforms to both the mythological record and to the geological record. As Cardona, Talbott and others have shown extensively via comparative mythology, our Sun wasn't our Sun until the Saturn System first entered the Solar System about 10,000 years ago. So it wasn't the Sun that caused any series of catastrophes. And the Greeks were less knowledgeable about catastrophes than the ancient Egyptians and Sumerians, so their idea of future cataclysms is likely based more on imagination. I don't know that I've heard of the Superwave theory, but these facts:
1. Thornhill's finding about Saturn having been previously a brown dwarf star and
2. Cardona's finding that brown dwarfs are known to flare, apparently more spectacularly than the Sun normally does, and
3. that in a fluctuating electrical environment through which Saturn seems to have moved somewhat in a comet-like fashion, it would have flared periodically, probably every few thousand years,
-- show that periodic catastrophes would have been caused by flares from Saturn itself, with no need for help from the galactic center, the Sun, or other influences (though there are likely to have been occasionally a few other influences).

Rock Strata Deposition before Continental Breakup and Seafloor Spreading

* Something I'd like to understand is how many rock strata were likely laid down during each Saturn flare. Seafloor spreading must have occurred mainly after most of the strata were deposited, so it must have been somewhat recent, though Cardona said in his interview that he thought seafloor spreading (continental drift) occurred during more than one of the Saturn flare events (due to the flare's electrical forces putting the brakes on Earth's core or mantle spin, which caused the crust to slide over the mantle at the Moho layer, I think). He seems to think that seafloor spreading started during one flare event, then continued during later flare events. But, if that were true, the ocean floors would be thinnest in the latest spreading zones (around ocean ridges) and thickest in the earliest zones near continental margins, whereas the seafloors seem to have about the same thickness all the way across [I think it's mainly about 3 mile-deep basalt in 3 layers.

Seafloor Spreading at 10,000 BP or 5,000 BP?

* After thinking this over now, this is what seems most plausible:
From the 10,000 BP Event (the Saturn System entering the Solar System):
1) - first, Saturn's plasmasphere encountered and bounced off of the heliosphere several times
2) Saturn flares
3) rock strata deposition on Earth etc
4) - then, the Saturn System finally penetrated the heliosphere
5) Earth's core and mantle to brake (stop rotating normally) continental sliding [i.e. the continents broke off of the former supercontinent and some of the continents slid apart over the slippery Moho layer]
6) - then, the Saturn System continued on an elliptical [or spiraling] orbit toward the Sun, which brought Earth into the Golden Age
7) - then, the Saturn System broke up near Jupiter
8) and the Saturn System planets continued toward their present orbits
9) Earth's ice age
* Cardona said (2) Saturn flares caused (5) mantle braking and continental sliding, but sliding had to occur after the youngest sedimentary rock strata were deposited.
* It's also possible that (5) may have occurred at (7), which might even be a better fit and it might mean that Jupiter caused Earth's mantle braking, which caused the continental sliding.

* The Hydroplate theory seems to make a very good case that the sedimentary rock strata in the area of the Grand Canyon were all laid down at the same time in a matter of weeks or months a few centuries after the Great Flood. I guess it contends that much of that rock came from a layer of water chambers about ten miles below the surface, whereas Cardona thinks it came from successive Saturn flares.

* If all of the Grand Canyon sedimentary strata were deposited just before the Great Flood within the past 10,000 years or so, does that mean all of the other continental sedimentary strata were probably deposited at that time as well? It seems that way, because I think there's granite and or schist under the Grand Canyon deposits and I think that also underlies the rest of the continental sedimentary deposits too, doesn't it? And I think I read that the continental sedimentary strata average about 2 miles deep.

* It appears that the continental strata were deposited before seafloor spreading occurred and that they were deposited mostly on one side of the Earth. Do you have any thoughts on that, whether in agreement or not?

* Since fossils are found only in sedimentary rock (I think), that would suggest that all of the fossils were laid down fresh during the Great Flood as well, which would mean that the fauna considered ancient are actually just as recent as most of the others, which is a bit hard for me to swallow offhand, although the evidence that humans and dinosaurs co-existed seems persuasive. I guess what's harder to swallow is that dinosaurs did not precede mammals or birds and didn't live for millions of years.

* In order for this all to be correct, there must not have been much ocean water previously, because submarine canyons on continental shelves, which go down one or two miles below present sea level (such as those off Monterey Calif., the Hudson River delta, the Nile delta etc), could not have formed under water. Cardona said the water was tied up in glaciation, but the only evidence of glaciation is on the continental surfaces, which apparently weren't there before the last deposition. So it seems that much of the ocean water came with the last rock strata deposition.

Did sulfurous compounds from ancient volcanoes help warm up Mars and form the now extinct Martian oceans?

Speculations about the existence of liquid oceans on Mars have been around for centuries. The Mars Science Laboratory, known as Curiosity, is currently seeking evidence for that conjecture. Images from orbiting cameras supposedly confirm that water once flowed on the surface of the now frozen and barren planet. However, recent publications http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story ... m-wet.html cast doubt on that idea.

At this point, after several years of exploration, no confirmation either way has been forthcoming. Some discoveries, such as the presence of olivine deposits on the surface, seem to preclude the existence of water on Mars since olivine is readily dissolved and dispersed in water. Any large deposits would have been washed away eons ago if there had been large quantities of liquid.

Scientists from the University of California at Berkeley wrote one of the more interesting “confirmations” for the liquid ocean hypothesis. Although the oceans have been gone for over 2 billion years, two “shorelines” extending for thousands of kilometers have been overlooked in past analyses of satellite imagery.

Crustal folds have supposedly obscured the shape of a fossil coastline as the planet deformed during a change in its rotational direction in the past. Due to some kind of imbalance in the mass distribution inside Mars the planet tilted over by at least 50 degrees on its axis, causing crustal distortions. Due to the change in orientation, increased exposure to the solar wind caused much of the water that once occupied the ocean basins to be lost.

It is proposed by planetary scientists that one-fifth of the Martian surface was once covered with water, so there “must be” more water remaining, locked-up in the rocks or buried underground in giant blocks of ice.

Another factor that contributed to the Martian oceans is carbon dioxide with large percentages of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. Today, the average temperature on Mars is -45 C, with a mean surface atmospheric pressure equivalent to standing on top of a mountain six times taller than Mount Everest. The atmosphere is frozen, dry and thin to the point where water would immediately sublime and dissociate, so somehow that atmosphere must have been thicker and warmer in the past.

The present carbon dioxide atmosphere is said to indicate an older version of the planet with greater atmospheric density containing more gas, according to conventional understanding: a “greenhouse effect”. The problem is that no amount of carbon dioxide in the evolution of any planet is sufficient to warm up the atmosphere by itself.

Other researchers speculate that volcanoes on Mars once erupted with tremendous quantities of sulfurous gases, acidifying the then extant oceans and preventing the formation of carbonates. Mars has a lot more sulfur than Earth, so the sulfuric acid is supposed to have dissolved away the limestone beds, for instance, while at the same time acting as a booster to the greenhouse environment.

Earth and Mars are presumed to have been similar in the past so many explanations have been offered for why the two planets diverged into their disparate natural settings. It is not surprising that electricity in the form of plasma discharges and lighting bolts has never been considered in the development of each world.

As Electric Universe advocate Wal Thornhill wrote:

“The idea of former oceans and rivers existing on Mars came from the many scoured channels and the flat, low terrain in the northern hemisphere. This marked hemispheric dichotomy is inexplicable by any known geological or astronomical effect. It has never occurred to geologists that the agent involved was electrified plasma. Why should it? Astrophysicists tell them that we live in an electrically neutral universe in which cosmic charge separation is impossible. But if that single assumption is incorrect everything changes. If the visible universe suffers cosmic charge separation then we have a source of energy to build and shape galaxies, light stars, give birth to planets, organize stable orbits and leave the resulting scars of electrical transactions on all solid bodies.”

More nails in the dark matter coffin.

Dark matter is supposed to be what holds the Universe together. However, modern telescopes are not able to see it because it does not interact with luminous matter, except gravitationally. Since galaxies spin through the cosmos, as well as move away from each other, they “must be” bound by dark matter gravity stitches, since there is not enough normal matter to account for the mass that they must possess in order to behave the way they do.

Galaxy clusters, for example, should have slowed down considerably over the last few billion years of space-time expansion and not maintained such wild velocities. Some galaxies, say astronomers, are moving so fast that they are hard on the heels of light speed.

It is often written in the popular press that dark matter makes up “25% of the Universe” or that dark energy makes up “75% of the rest of the Universe.” To anyone familiar with plasma physics, it is well known that plasma makes up 99.99% of the Universe. The amount of gravitational mass invented to save conventional theories is the same as the ionized plasma in an Electric Universe that is overlooked.

Recently, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Paranal, Chile announced that there is “no evidence for dark matter in a large volume around the Sun.”

This commentary is in opposition to those who have proposed that the Solar System orbits inside the dark matter halo of the Milky Way. Some astrophysicists calculate that the equivalent of 800 billion solar masses worth of dark matter particles encompasses our galaxy. Since there are an estimated 200 billion stars, presumably composed of “baryonic matter”, there should be a relatively dense cloud of dark matter for the Sun to plow through as it speeds along its circuit at almost 500,000 kilometers per hour. Apparently not, says ESO.

As long ago as 2007 serious doubts about dark matter theory were already published. Unreliable data collection methods from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) research team cast a shadow on the so-called “Lambda Cold Dark Matter” theory. In 2010, scientists at Durham University also expressed concerns with the errors in WMAP results about the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR). The CMBR is supposed to be the “remnant signature of the Big Bang,” so problems in its analysis could have even farther-reaching consequences.

For instance, the two principal tenets of the Big Bang theory are that redshift is proportional to distance and that it is an indicator of velocity. The larger an object’s redshift, supposedly the farther away it is and the faster it is moving away from the observer. Those two ideas provide the backdrop for the commonly held belief that the Universe is expanding. “Dark energy” enters into the discussion at this point but it is not the subject of this paper. If the WMAP data is inaccurate, then there is a question regarding expansion of the Universe and the Big Bang.

It is electric currents that drive galaxies and their stars. The magnetic vortices between large-scale Birkeland current filaments create galaxies. Birkeland currents have a longer-range attractive force than gravity, and diminish with the reciprocal of the distance rather than gravity’s square of the distance. That alone could account for the anomalous movement of stars as they revolve around galactic cores.

The flow of electricity through plasma in space initiates the effects that are seen through space-based telescopes, confirming ground-based research. Electric currents in the cosmos and their associated magnetic fields should be our focus and not the search for that which can never be found.

“Plasma cosmology can demonstrate with simple physical principles the electrical formation and behavior of spiral galaxies and stars without recourse to hypothetical dark matter and black holes.”
— Wal Thornhill

Truth Is What You Make Of It

Image

Astronomical research in the virtual realm instigates foregone conclusions.

“It is only because the majority opinion will always be opposed by some that our knowledge and understanding progress.” — Friedrich Hayek

The most important issue separating the Electric Universe from conventional views is that evidence based in laboratory experiments can be used to support EU theories of cosmogony and cosmology. The mainstream sinks its foundations in ground where computer models and complex equations are used for support. It is this philosophical divergence that inhibits the general acceptance of plasma and electricity as active agents in space.

The Thunderbolts Picture of the Day does not consider questions that involve the search for subjective meaning in the Universe. It is enough in most instances to draw correspondence between the theories proposed in peer-reviewed journals and those embodied in Electric Universe hypotheses. The so-called “anomalies” in consensus opinions tend to disappear in most cases when EU theory is brought to bear on the questions.

This begs the question: “What is truth?” In the “correspondence view” of truth, any statement is true if it corresponds to factual reality. An assertion such as “there is a bird in that tree” is true only if there is “actually” a bird there. In this case, the corollary is not true. Saying “there is no bird in the tree” does not correspond to a true condition of fact when the bird is resting amidst the foliage.

The correspondence view requires that statements can be proven false if they disagree with “real” conditions. The EU hypothesis rests its premises in that foundation, so there is no mention of the beginning of things—no speculation into the origin of the Universe or where the energy comes from that sustains it.

The Electric Universe approach is to offer speculations into the nature of phenomena that often run counter to those concepts elucidated by the majority. Paul Feyerabend, a gifted philosopher of science, and author of Against Method: Outline of an Anarchistic Theory of Knowledge wrote:

“Unanimity of opinion may be fitting for a church, for the frightened or greedy victims of some (ancient, or modern) myth, or for the weak and willing followers of some tyrant. Variety of opinion is necessary for objective knowledge. And a method that encourages variety is also the only method that is comparable with a humanitarian outlook.”

In that light, viewpoints such as an electronic Sun, rather than a nuclear powered fusion reactor; electrical scarring on planets and moons, rather than meteorite bombardment or fluvial and aeolian processes; solid bodies born from stellar objects through electrodynamic expulsion, rather than gravitationally compressed dusty whirlpools are some of the contrary opinions provided by those who advocate an electromagnetically active cosmos, not one that operates through gravity and kinetics alone.

Karl Popper once said: “Whenever a theory appears to you as the only possible one, take this as a sign that you have neither understood the theory nor the problem which it was intended to solve.”

Ancient statue discovered by Nazis is made from meteorite

An ancient Buddhist statue that was recovered by a Nazi expedition in the 1930s was originally carved from a highly valuable meteorite.

Researchers say the 1,000-year-old object with a swastika on its stomach is made from a rare form of iron with a high content of nickel.

They believe it is part of the Chinga meteorite, which crashed about 15,000 years ago.

The findings appear in the Journal, Meteoritics and Planetary Science.

The 24cm (9-inch) tall statue is 10kg (22lb) and is called the Iron Man.
Origins unknown

The story of this priceless object owes more perhaps to an Indiana Jones film script than sober scientific research.

It was discovered in Tibet in 1938 by German scientist Ernst Schafer. His expedition was supported by the Nazis, in particular by Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS. Himmler was said to believe the Aryan race originated in Tibet and was keen to recover objects from the area.

It is absolutely priceless and absolutely unique”

Dr Elmar Buchner University of Stuttgart

Brought back to Germany, the statue became part of a private collection and disappeared from view until 2007. A new owner then sought scientific advice on the origins. He turned to Dr Elmar Buchner from the University of Stuttgart.

"I was absolutely sure it was a meteorite when I saw it first, even at 10 metres" said Dr Buchner.

He said that the clue was in small, thumb like impressions caused by the melting of the surface. Further analysis showed that it was a rare ataxite class, a type of meteorite not often found on Earth.

"It is rich in nickel, it is rich in cobalt. Less than 0.1% of all meteorites and less than 1% of iron meteorites are ataxites, so it is the rarest type of meteorites you can find."

Meteorites have been seen as a sign of divine activity across many cultures since the dawn of time. Knives and jewellery were made from iron meteorites by ancient Inuit. But tracing their exact origins is often extremely difficult.

The German and Austrian scientists who worked on the Iron Man with Dr Buchner were surprised to be able to trace the statue to a specific event in meteorite history.
Absolutely priceless

The researchers believe it was carved from a piece of the Chinga meteorite that fell in the border region of eastern Siberia and Mongolia about 15,000 years ago.

The debris from the crash was only discovered in 1913 by gold prospectors, but the individual fragment from which the statue was carved was collected many centuries before.

"We were quite astonished by the results," said Dr Buchner.

"OK, it's a meteorite but what amazed me was that we could also say it was from Chinga, that we could find the provenance, that was really astonishing for me."

The statue is believed to portray the god Vaisravana. The researchers think it belongs to the pre-Buddhist Bon culture that existed in Asia about 1,000 years ago.

"If we are right that it was made in the Bon culture in the 11th Century, it is absolutely priceless and absolutely unique worldwide," observed Dr Buchner.

Neither the person who carved it or the Nazis had any idea it was made from such a rare substance, he said.

In keeping with the Hollywood element in the story, Dr Buchner said the statue had a certain aura.

"It is extremely impressive, it was formerly almost completely gilded - there is a great mystery represented by it."
